Into The Grey: A feline-filled academic mystery by Clea Simon

Dulcie is very angry that a new professor is added to the group she's working with on her thesis.  Especially since he's criticized her work and suggested she doesn't have enough substance to warrant her theory she's presenting in the thesis.  She even says she could kill him.  When he turns up dead in his office, that statement is going to haunt her...

Dulcie's boyfriend tries to calm her down by being logical and telling her that they are only looking at her because she was so vocal about her anger over the putdown and was the one that found the body.  Her girlfriend tells her she needs to be careful, they think she did it.  It gets even worse when she pulls out a book that is misplaced in the library stacks and finds the murder weapon.  They think she might have placed the book there herself and then "found" it.

This college professor was not a nice man.  He preyed on his students.  It was kept quiet but most everyone knew about it.  The trail is crooked and wraps around a lot of different characters.  Dulcie thinks she hears her cat's ghost talking to her.  Sometimes she wonders about her sanity.  She needs to listen to him, though.

This is a cozy type mystery that was relaxing and fun to read.  Ms. Simon always incorporates cats in her stories and I like that.  I'm a cat person.

With lots of different suspects and pieces of the story missing, it takes a bit to solve the mystery.  The cops keep telling Dulcie to mind her own business but she keeps snooping.  She's really lucky she didn't end up as the last victim...
