A murderer has been broken out of jail, so the FBI is in the area.  They are travelling cross country following the couple he's with.  Liam is not a kind man.  Even the ones rescuing him don't like him.

The FBI also gets involved in the baby case because an agent had saved the mother from death.

Everyone is dangerous and more than one person is dealing death.  You have an experimental scientist, Russians, and more involved.  For every one person they save, another dies.  As the FBI follows the trail, they find a woman that doesn't exist, a banking scheme, blackmail and more.  

Nothing Catherine Colter writes is simple; there are mysteries within mysteries.  Her endings also always make you wonder just how everything is going to turn out.  Will you see those characters again?  How did they get away?

This fast paced story with more facets than a diamond ring has.  Almost everything is tied together even if tenuous.  To live in this world, you'd have to be happy to live on adrenaline!

This book is 517 pages long but you won't want to set it down.  The action is fierce, you can feel the danger, and the characters are resourceful.  You can feel the characters and their beliefs.  It doesn't take long until you're hooked on the story.

The thief, Fox, is married and when they don't succeed in killing her, they grab her husband.  She called the FBI agents because they caught her in the past and let her go after a trade of goods they were trying to recover.  They come in to help and find it's much more difficult than they thought it would be.

The scary part is that people have learned how to control the weather.  One family in particular has used that knowledge to make a lot of money.  It's unfortunate that the grandchildren of this family want to control the world.  They don't want to hear the word "no" again.  And they are old enough to do it.

This turns into an international crisis with unneeded and unheeded death.  The Covert Eyes are busy and everyone faces personal danger.  At the end, all you can do is keep reading and keep hoping the good characters make it.

The Final Cut (A Brit in the FBI #1) by Catherine Coulter, J.T. Ellison

The Fox is a thief.  A thief with a lot of patience...

Putnam sent me an ARC of this book to read for review (thank you).  The book was published in September, so you can find a copy at your local bookstore now.

Ms. Coulter always writes good books.  She adds a lot of action, intrigue, and a touch of romance to hold your interest.  This book introduces a new character:  Nicholas Drummond, who's a Brit.  He's a very interesting character with all kinds of story possibilities.  We'll see more of him, I know.

He initially gets involved in the case because one of his agents who is at the museum on guard duty is found dead.  They tell him Elaine must have committed suicide, but he doesn't buy it.  He also can't imagine why someone would murder her, but he's determined to do his own investigation.

He has an "in" because his Uncle is the head of the security team there, but he doesn't know exactly what he's walking into.  It seems the Koh-i-Noor diamond has been stolen from the Queen Mother's crown.

You know the story is going to be intense when you find out that the diamond wasn't stolen yet.  It gets stolen while Nick is in the building with all the security guards.  And the person who stole it had worked there for two years...

This is a complex story with two or three double-crossers and multiple plans on who gets the diamond and why.  I was amazed at the ending and enjoyed the read.  Not only did we meet a new character, Sherlock and Savich are there, too.  

You might think you know the plot but Coulter & Ellison will lead you down some dark paths in other directions.  I like that in a book.  Why don't you give a read and see what you think?
