How to be a Cat by Nikki McClure

Do you have a cat?  Are you thinking of getting one?  This board book teaches your little one how cats act and it's a fun read.

The illustrations are done in black and white and stand out impressively.  Most open book pages have just one word on them but my cats have done all the things this author points out.  They pounce, explore, hunt and more in this story and it shows the cats doing it.  Mama and kitten demonstrate the actions.

Here's a way to teach young ones about cats and their activities so they will understand what they are doing.  I grew up with a cat in my crib so I knew these things, but the illustrations are cool and I enjoyed the book.

May the Stars Drip Down by Jeremy Chatelain

This is an interesting children's picture book.  It's based on a song by indie rock band Cub Country.

It sounds like a song when you read it even though I didn't know it was based on one.  This is a sweet lullaby to share with your little one when you are putting them to bed.  The illustrations are done by Nikki McClure and help lead you into ethereal world of dreams:  safe, solid, nice dreams of wandering the wonders of the earth at night.

You might want to play that while you and your child settle down for the night.  You can read along or sing along to it.  Just make sure you don't fall asleep, too.

How To Be A Cat by Nikki McClure

This is a most delightful children's picture book about cats.  It was sure to be a hit with me because I'm a cat person, but it's also well done and very attractive.  Good job, Ms. McClure!

The illustrations are done in black and white with just a touch of blue for color.  It's a very distinctive presentation and the story is about the habits of cats.  The kitten is being taught by Mom in how to do things cat-like.

This would be an excellent book to share with a young one that has a cat in the family or is going to get one.  Reading this book made me want to pet both of them.

It's a delightful book with simple art, simple text, and it's a pleasure to read.  Why not make your young one smile and give them a copy of this book?
