I liked the style that was used for this story. Each chapter is a person's story. You learn about their past, their feelings now, and you worry about their future. It was easy to read and really made the story realistic.
The captain of the ship they've been forced to join is a traitor. Before they finish the trip they are on, he has surrendered to the pirates and joined them on their ship. The strong boys are taken on the pirate ship. The weaker ones are left behind on a ship with a broken mast. They know each other from the home but they don't know much else. How will they survive?
One of the more interesting facts is that one of the "boys" is a girl. She's Mac's sister, not brother. The pirate realizes this and has plans for her. Mac has to save her.
The story is well written, exciting and the boys band together and really do become brothers before the story is through. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and will watch for the next book in the series.
