We start with the evil stepmother and her two ugly daughters. Then we throw in a Hansel and Gretel routine and lose the princesses in the woods. From that point, the story branches into another fairy tale with a fairy godmother, a talking fox, and bits of magic everywhere.
Greenleaf Book Group and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published July 1st, so make a note on your TBR list.
This is a fun fairy tale for both children and adults. It's written for middle grades but I had fun reading it, too. I don't think any of us are too old to enjoy a fairy tale now and then.
One of the sisters goes to work at the castle, but she's disguised by skin of a crocodile. She's checking out the situation there before the other sister joins her. The part of the story that tickled me had to do with her time off. She got tired of wearing the skin and went to a quiet enclosed area of the castle and sat unfettered. It was just her luck the prince saw her. And then he decides she's the one! They have been trying to find him a wife for some time and now he wants this invisible one he claims he's seen.
Mr. Valentino's illustrations are great. He writes a tale with lots of excitement, interesting character and many antics that keep the story interesting. I enjoyed this read. Anybody who enjoys fantasy and fairy tales will, too.
I'm Jo Ann Hakola, The Book Faerie, bookworm and bookseller. I have been selling books since January of 2000. It's a homebased business and I sell online only. I do book reviews from a reader's point-of-view and try to spread the magic of reading.
