Miss Seeton, By Appointment by Hampton Charles

The criminals don't really stand a chance when Miss Seeton is around.  She may not know what's going on or who the criminal is but somehow she always ends up in the middle of the case and exposes the wrong doing.  She's like a secret weapon...

I love Miss Seeton as a character.  She's a doddering old fool to everyone else but she does the job.

She can't believe she got invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace!  The only reason she's brave enough to go is because her neighbors have been invited, too, and they'll take her with them.  The reason for the invite is because the cops think someone is leaking secrets and they want her to scope them out and maybe find a suspect.  What she finds is something more.

The gossipy neighbors have her attacking a man and trying to kill him and doing other nefarious things which are all false.  The man she tried to help and almost strangled is a thief.  He decides he needs to get her out of the way and tries to kill her but he ends up in the cold river instead.  She somehow manages to walk out of the palace with a shrunken head in her tote and now she's to help with a theft that the young model has been blackmailed to participate in.

While all this various stuff is going on, the thief is planning everything out perfectly.  He almost succeeds but Miss Seeton uses her umbrella to recover the jewelry and another guest barks out a military command and oh my!

Reading about Miss Seeton is never boring.  She's quite the character and the only injuries she comes up with are from her Yoga exercises.  How could you not like her?

Miss Seeton at the Helm by Hampton Charles

Miss Seeton is very excited.  She's won a trip to Greece.  Her friends George and Emily are going and she's thrilled at seeing all the artwork and architecture.  She doesn't know that Scotland Yard is paying for the trip and they hope she can help them solve a case.  She also doesn't know that another murder will happen while they are on the ship...

It's an odd group on the ship.  There's a TV star that has a new girlfriend draped on him.  His ex-wife is part of the tour, too.  There's a relatively young couple, a man who is fighting the TV star in a law suit, and a man who lectures to the tour.  Most are acquainted and know each other but some are strangers.  

Miss Seeton saves a man who's on a walk and almost falls from the trail.  He was actually trying to push the man ahead of him off the trail but she doesn't see that.  I think this ability to not see how dangerous is it is what keeps her alive.

There's been a con game going on that is mostly likely to come to light during the lawsuit.  The man who shares the profits of the con with the TV star wants the other man killed.  Since Miss Seeton stopped that, the TV star is not sure what to do next.  Before he can decide, he ends up dead.  Then Miss Seeton gets hit in the head and her sketches stolen.

George calls the newspaper gal, Mel, and asks her to get hold of the Oracle and get him over to take over the case.  It's a complicated case with a sad ending but Miss Seeton sails through.  I have to say that the Oracle disappointed me in this story.  He does something that seems totally out-of-character for him.  I'll have to read the next book to see how this gets resolved.

Advantage Miss Seeton by Hampton Charles

She's a rising tennis star.  Her father is a judge.  He's a stern judge that makes no allowances for anyone.  Now someone who has served his time and lost his daughter is planning to take Judge's daughter from him.

Miss Seeton is only at the match because she's been invited by her local friends.  Nigel seems to have an eye on this tennis star and is love struck.  Miss Seeton knows nothing about tennis but by leaving her sentences unfinished, the reverend thinks she knows more than she does.  It's while she's at the match that she notices a man observing the judge and the daughter.  He looks like he belongs but he looks a bit furtive, too.

The ex-con gets his buddy from prison involved in a plan to kidnap the girl.  His buddy wants to rob the old churches and take their silver and gold.  He brings another person to help with disposal of the goods.  The first church they rob turns out to be Miss Seeton's.  She's got flower duty and is down there that night looking over how many flowers she will need and what kind.  It's a good thing she has a torch with her because it saves her from being strangled.  Good ole Miss Seeton.  No matter how well the crime is thought out, she manages to mess it up.

When the Oracle gets involved, he wants to look at her sketches.  He knows she sketches more than they actually sees and it's helped on past cases.  It helps on this case, too.

As the criminals bumble around and nothing works out quite like it should, you can look at Miss Seeton in the middle stirring the pot.  She's not the smartest pea in the pod but she's a very good catalyst.  That makes this series fun to read.
