The Last Human by Lee Bacon

The humans are gone.  They developed robots that became smarter and more developed as time went on.  Then one day, the robots rebelled.  Now it's a robot world.

Amulet Books and Edelweiss let me read this this book for review (thank you).  It will be published October 8th.

When the robots see a little girl peering at them from the trees, they're taken aback.  They are a team of robots that work together and this is the first time they've seen a human.  They cautiously speak to her and she does the same to them.

As she tells them how the humans have been living underground in a shelter, she also confesses they have some sort of virus and they've run out of antibiotic.   She needs to go to another point on the map to get more.  She asks if they will go with her because she's scared.  They agree knowing the dangers and they set out on the long journey.

It's an exciting journey.  They have other robots and drones after them.  The one she first talked to slides down a cliff face, and she saves him with the help of the other robots.

They eventually get caught and the president plans to make an example of them.  There can be no secrets from the hive.  But it gets turned around on him when they play archived footage of the humans before they were exterminated.  That showed their love, their kindness and the good they did but it was withheld from the hive...

Despite what they did and how they did it, this has a happy ending.  Even robots can show some compassion.

Joshua Dread The Nameless Hero by Lee Bacon

Imagine being a kid and having a superpower; is that a good thing or not?  Joshua isn't real sure, but he's going to have use his talents to stay alive in this second book in the series.

Delacorte Press sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.  You can also get a copy of the first of the series, Joshua Dread.

Joshua and another superpower friend get told they are "chosen".  If that isn't weird enough, they get an invitation to "Gyfted & Talented", a program specifically for kids like him.  If they can't even spell gifted right, just how legitimate is this place anyway?  Milton all excited and creates his own pass, even if he doesn't have any gifts.  When he gets caught on it and they try to send him home, Sophie and Joshua say they will go with him.  He stays with them or they all go home together.  Forced into it, the director lets him stay.

The tests here to help them develop their power are scary, mean, and hard.  They also aren't sure if they trust the people running the place.  They need to know how to use their powers because the evil maniac Phineas Vex is still alive...

This is a story full of action, Mr. Bacon makes his characters human and full of their own idiosyncrasies and some of their success comes by accident but you won't have a chance to be bored.  You'll also know there is going to be another book in this series, which readers will be happy to see.  This story isn't done yet...
