Flash Point: A Psychological Thriller by Colby Marshall

This is a creepy book.  Someone is playing games with her but she doesn't even know it.  When everyone in the bank is randomly and grossly killed, you have to wonder why.  They didn't even take any money.  They did take the videos, though.  And they gave them to the press...

Jenna is paranoid.  She has a good reason to be.  Her mother is out of jail and rehab and she's still after her.  She has special codes to prove her child is safe with trusted caregivers.  She's very cautious about herself.  And now she has one of the biggest cases she's had in her life.  This is not an isolated incident and it was not done alone.  There are a dozen killers.  How did they find each other?  What do they have in common?  Why would they do this?

While she's following the case and looking for clues, she has two enemies meeting and combining their strengths against her.  This whole story was tense.  I believe the next book might be even worse.

When Jenna finally figures out who's involved and why, she has a general who thinks he knows all and almost sets off a national disaster by acting just like the individuals expected him to.  They were against the power being given to the dumb politicians and they were using the military's reaction to demonstrate just how bad it is.  It takes Jenna's quick thinking and reaction to keep it from getting worse.

There's plenty of action, lots of brainwork, and a few crazy people involved, so you won't be bored reading this.  If you have a strong heart, give it a read.

Double Vision by Colby Marshall

Dr Jenna Ramey sees colors around people (or bodies).  She has to work to interpret what it means but it always signifies something important.  She's well known enough that she doesn't get as much harassment as she used to, but it's still hard to understand for those who don't have the talent.

Berkley Trade Paperback sent me an ARC of this book for review (thank you).  It is being published today, so you can find a copy at your local bookstore now.

Jenna is paranoid.  Her mother is insane.  She's tried to kill Jenna's father twice, succeeded in killing Jenna's husband, and now she's free out there somewhere.  She keeps her child with her father or her brother every waking moment.  She changes the passwords and codes for the door locks every day.  She's always watchful.  But she still helps find killers.

When there is a supermarket massacre she's called in.  Seven people have died here.  None were related to each other.  It appears to be a random shooting.  But it's not.  It's tied to other deaths.  However, those were all a combination of 3's.  333 triggered a three shot death.  But who was doing it?

This was a good plot that was hard for the detectives to tie together.  I felt there was too much emphasis put on the numbers, religion and mythology.  I ended up skipping some of it just to get on with the story.  It's important, but it need not overwhelm the story.  The author does a good job of tying everything together by the end but it took a bit too long to get there.

What Jenna realizes is that little Molly, who is total number girl (counts everything), is going to be the next victim, the investigation kicks up a few gears and even the FBI get involved.  When she meets her brother-in-law from the past that she had never seen before, it's shocking.  He looks a lot like her dead husband.  He's also in the FBI.

This story gets a bit frenzied before it settles back down but even the ending has a kicker for you.  Jenna's mother is still around and she's even found her.  I'll have to read the next book in this series!
