Bangabout Bits by Christopher Lincoln

OK, are you ready for this?  Here's a really cool young reader's book that is a cross between steampunk and robots!  How can you go wrong?

I must confess I've reviewed other books by Mr. Lincoln and I've enjoyed everyone of them, so I was more than ready to say yes when he asked again.  I even had to stick it in between other reviews because I didn't want to wait any longer.  If I can get this excited about a story at my age, I'm sure young ones will really enjoy it, too!

This is the tale of a young robot who has been mis-wired.  His father gave him curiosity, which is not allowed in the current time and place.  Asking questions gets him trouble.  But he can't help himself and he does want to know the answers.

As a result, he has a lot of people/robots after him.  The only hope he has are his mechanical friends.  He may be a clockwork boy, but he fights back masterfully with friends he didn't know he had acquired helping him.

The school compacts itself and moves to another location at night.  The rich people's houses are on clouds about the ground and only accessible by an air current taking them up.  They need umbrellas to go down.  And there are even more interesting characters and buildings in the story.

It's an exciting tale with plenty of action and it will keep anyone reading the story busy.  I'm already hoping to read more about Bangabout in the future.  I'm pretty sure his adventures aren't done yet!

The Shadow's Glow by Christopher Lincoln

This is a carefully woven tale that is almost ghostly...

This is the second book I've read by this author and I really admire his writing style.  It seems like he takes you by the hand and leads you gently through his story.

The story is written for young ones and the most important characters (to me at least) were not the Duke or the Princess.  It was the Duke's Shadow and the Princess' Glow.  They were both lonely and wanted to wander at night, but they were stuck with their people.  Until one night, when everything changed...

This is a magical story filled with illustrations that remind me a bit of Edward Gorey's work.  While it is a short story, it's well thought out and complete.  I enjoyed it.  Why don't you give a try?  I bet you'll end up rooting for the same "characters" I do!

Billy Bones The Road to Nevermore by Christopher Lincoln

This is the second book in this series, but it read just fine as a stand alone novel.

Billy Bones is a child that was made human again in normal world, but he never grows any older than 10 years old. His parents live in the closet, and they are skeletons but he loves them anyway.

He and his cousin want to go aboard the beautiful sailing boat his aunt is building and have an adventure, but his aunt won't allow that. So Billy and Millicent go ask his parents for help finding Pirate Pete so they might have their sea adventure after all.

Unfortunately, Pirate Pete is in the worlds below ours, and very close to being stuck in Nevermore. There is no escape from Nevermore...

And when Billy's parents get taken prisoner, he has to figure out how he and Millicent can save them. Then Millicent's soul is stolen and Billy has to attempt to save her, too!

This one would be great for a boy who loves adventure and fantasy. The story is well put together and you don't know how it's going to end. Even children who don't normally like to read should be drawn in by this story.
