Gem Stone by Dale Mayer

Gemma Stone grew up in juvie.  She knows where she is now (a halfway house of sorts) is the best place she's been so far.  She also knows that she'll soon be old enough to go out on her own and she's looking forward to that.  Right now, she's been having fun taking pictures and trying new techniques for better photos.  When she finds green slime on the creek below the bridge, she has no idea how much trouble that is going to cause her and her friends...

Ms. Mayer graciously shared her ebook with me for review (thank you).  I enjoy her writing and the stories she creates, so I was glad to read it.  You can buy a copy on Amazon either as an ebook or a paperback now.

The green slime is from an illegal activity and Gemma's picture taking manages to get the bad guy's attention.  When Gemma's female friend is kidnapped from the home, she and the other juvies from the home do their best to find her.  When they do, she's been drugged and must go to the hospital.

These kids have a natural distrust of law enforcement; they've been on the wrong side of it too often.  They don't think anyone is going to protect them from whomever kidnapped their friend.  So they will have to do it themselves...

These are strong young adults who can think quickly when in danger and who aren't afraid to fight back.  Gemma is especially outspoken and I like her.  She's going to get to the bottom of the case and resolve it even if she has to get the whole town involved.

There's good action, challenges galore, and it's a good story.  I have the feeling Gemma and her friends will be back.  I can't wait to read their next adventure.

Maddy's Floor by Dale Mayer

Maddy has an ability to help people heal.  She has even been given her own floor at the hospital.  Most patients are terminal, but she makes them comfortable and lets them enjoy their final days.  Then her patients begin to die early for no apparent reason...

The author sent me an ebook of this story for review.  I enjoy Ms. Mayer's books, so I was pleased to get it.  You can buy this ebook on Amazon now.

Maddy knows there is something evil encroaching on her floor, but it looks like black smoke and she has no idea where it's coming from.  She also knows the person causing it does not want to be stopped.

Ms. Mayer adds a bit of romance in with the mystery, which I found very enjoyable.  Drew is a detective working cold cases and his Aunt and Uncle are in the hospital. 

The actual mystery began almost twenty years ago, and trying to find how it's all related and who the murderer is a very dangerous thing to do.  The hospital has several people who were involved in some way, so it makes following the black smoke's path very difficult.  It seems each character is carrying some sort of secret with them.

The ending is dramatic and forceful.  You won't fall asleep reading this book.  Why not pick up a copy and see what you think about it?  I enjoyed it.

Hide'n Go Seek by Dale Mayer

Kali Jordan worked in Search and Rescue and she and her dog were astounding.  They were almost always successful at their hunts.  Kali had a secret she didn't share with people.  She would have been amazed to find out someone had already noticed...

Ms. Mayer sent me a copy of this ebook to read and review (thank you).  I'd already read the first one in this series:  Psychic Visions, and was looking forward to seeing where she went with this story.  I was not disappointed. You can get a copy on Amazon or Smashwords, it also comes in paperback.

Kali herself picks up the aura of folks who are injured and in need of rescue.  She also picks up the darkness of those who have died.  She can't tell other people that, though, so she uses Shiloh, her rescue dog, to help her find them and gives Shiloh the credit for the find.

Kali begins to realize something is wrong when disaster survivors are being murdered.  She can't understand why someone would kill them.  Then she gets a note calling her a witch and she knows someone has figured out her skills.  From there, it turns into a game of cat and mouse.  The killer hides the victims and dares Kali to find them before they are dead...

This is a psychological thriller that gives you a good background on the search and rescue process.  Ms. Mayer is good at expressing emotional trauma and how it affects the characters. Sometimes having a power can make you a magnet for love.  Or hatred.  

Why not travel along through Kali's shoes and see how she handles a murderer on her trail?

It's a Dog's Life by Dale Mayer

It's her first day at the vet's office and she wants to do well; she really needs this job.  Then a dog starts talking to her.  Is she losing her mind?

Ms. Mayer gave me a copy of this novelette to read for review (thank you).  It is available on Amazon as an ebook.

Ninna has never worked with animals and isn't even sure she likes dogs, but she needs a source of income to pay her bills.  This job will help with that.  And the veterinarian is really cute and nice.  Maybe this could be her dream job.  If that floppy eared Basset Hound would just leave her alone, it'd be great.

He informs her his name is Mosey (and when he moves, that's about his speed). She thinks his loose skin is disgusting; he's real pleased she can hear his speech.  You already know how she feels about it.

When she finds out the vet is living across the street from her, she's thrilled.  Here is her chance to get to know him better, discretely, of course.  Even better, he has to go away for the weekend and wants her to babysit his menagerie.  She agrees willingly.  That will let her know if a pet is will work for her and might also be the beginning of a relationship with Stuart.  She sure never expected it to save her life...

This is a well written light tale that will make you smile with the bantering between girl and dog and girl and girlfriend.  Why not download the book, get a cup of coffee or tea and sit in your reading chair with a good read?  You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

Dangerous Designs by Dale Mayer

Storey likes to draw.  So when she finds a fancy new pencil on her way home, she picks it up and takes it home.  It draws nicely, too; unfortunately, it's a stylus.

Ms. Mayer sent me an ebook of this story for review (thank you).  It written for young adults, but this older reader enjoyed it, too.  You can grab a copy on Amazon.

Storey doesn't understand the significance of the "pencil" she's found, but she does know that her drawing has become obsessive.  She can't stop.  And she can't control what she draws, the pencil does it itself.  She can just hold it and it draws.  As she begins to worry about this, she meets a new, very attractive, boy at school.

Eric is in our world searching for the stylus.  He's supposed to retrieve it and take it home.  His father doesn't even care if he has to kill Storey to get it.  But Eric does...

This is a paranormal romance story with lots of danger, evil people, and different worlds in different dimensions.  The story is well plotted and the action keeps you reading.  I was especially impressed with how quickly Storey learned to use the stylus and what she could do with it.

I have only complaint with this book.  It ends on a cliffhanger and I want Ms. Mayer to write the next book, NOW!

Tuesday's Child by Dale Mayer

Samantha has a weird ability that she wishes she didn't have.  Everyone around her thinks she's crazy.  She's even been put in a mental hospital for a while.  But it didn't make it go away. In her own words:  "Christ, she was tired of waking up dead."

Ms. Mayer provided me with a copy of his book for review (thank you).  This is a paranormal mystery and I found it a very good read.  The book is available on Smashwords and Amazon.

Sam lives alone in a very private setting to avoid having any problems with other people.  If she deals with her problems alone, it's better.  She has psychic powers she wishes she could shed.  She does want to help people, though, so she has to endure her visions.  The worst part is that she goes within the victim at her time of death and feels all the pain and suffering.  Knowing there is a serial killer out there doesn't make it better.

When she tries to report a death to local police station, she almost gets thrown out because no death has been reported.  When it is, she becomes a suspect.  The only person who believes her is Brandt, the cop working on serial killings.  And she scares even him.

The story moves fast, the author's words flow well, and I found the story intriguing.  The ending is thrilling.  Why not grab a copy for yourself and see what you think?
