Elegy for Eddie by Jacqueline Winspear

Eddie was a bit simple and worked mostly with horses.  He could tame or calm any horse by talking to it.  Who would want to hurt Eddie?  Even worse, who would want to kill him?

Harper sent me a copy of this ARC for review (thank you).  The book has been published in April and you can get a copy at your local bookstore now.

This story is set in between World War I and World War II.  The central character is Maisie, who I've met in "A Lesson in Secrets."  She's investigating in this novel, too.

It's April, 1933, and Maisie has been asked to look into Eddie's death.  There's no way to prove it's murder, but it doesn't appear to be an accident either.  It just happened.  The group of men who knew Eddie and lived in her old neighborhood didn't believe that and neither did Maisie.  But the police won't investigate it.

Maisie and James are still keeping house together, but she's beginning to wonder if she really loves him.  They're both keeping secrets from each other.  As she researches Eddie's death, she begins to believe that her best friend's husband might be keeping secrets, too.

She's a woman trying to do a man's job of investigating and being snoopy can get you killed; look what happened to Eddie.  But Maisie is Maisie and she doesn't intend to stay out of something that no one else wants made public.

If you'd like to visit Maisie's world and see just exactly why Eddie died, you can win my ARC.  Just leave a comment here on my blog and email me at info at bookfaerie.com with your name and address and why you'd like to read it.  I'll pick a winner in about a week.

Happy reading.

I've heard a lot of good things not only about this book, but about the author, Jacqueline Winspear and this series. I'd love to win and read your ARC.
