The Ciphers of Muirwood: Covenant of Muirwood (Book 2) by Jeff Wheeler

Maia is safe for the first time in a long time.  She suffered mightily in the first book and she's still recovering.  Unfortunately, her enemies are still alive and they haven't forgotten her.

47 North and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published September 15th.  If you haven't read the first book, I'd suggest you do.  That will help with your understanding of this second book.

Maia's husband has been imprisoned.  She knows he thinks she double-crossed him but that's not exactly what happened.  Her father is her enemy.  She barely got away alive.  She pines for him but can do nothing from where she is.

She's training to be a maston but for some reason the medium keeps rejecting her.  She tries to come to terms with what happened in the past so she will be pleasing to the medium but it just isn't working.  Now her father is coming her after again and means to imprison her and take down Muirwood.  He'll banish the abbeys and take all the money for himself.

There are more politics played in this book than there are in a presidential election.  Maia is the only hope anyone has of surviving.  But how can she become one with the medium if it forbids her to?

This book was even better than the first one.  Maia is part of her way through her journey but she's not done yet.  The assassin was back in this story, too.  I don't know what part he will ultimately play in this series.  Her husband is back, as well, and he's also got more of a role to fulfill.  I think the climax to this series will be the best book of all.  Don't disappoint me, Mr. Wheeler!
