Rogue Alliance by Michelle Bellon

She's an abused child that has become a cop.  He's an abused child that has become a weapon of destruction fueled by blood.  He knows he's a monster.  She thinks he's too much man to be a monster.

Lightning Books Promotions and the author shared this book with me for a review (thank you).  It has been published and you can pick a copy of it up where ebooks are sold.

Shyla is a very dedicated and tough cop.  Her life started out real rough and once she had it under control, she left the past behind and moved on.  It's not good when her work takes her back to her home town as an undercover operative.  She's going after a major player in the drug business and she's going to take him down, badge or not.  When they order her off the case, she resigns and goes rogue.

Brennan has been an experiment to an evil doctor.  The doctor has messed with his genetics, his body chemistry, and his mind.  He's grown up incarcerated and his memories have been erased by torture.  He needs blood to live, but he's not a vampire.  He's really something worse because he has extraordinary physical abilities and great strength.  He's a deathly warrior who needs someone to believe in.  When the drug lord rescues him, he knows he owes him and he becomes his bodyguard.  He never expected to meet Shyla.

Shyla dates the drug lord and he treats her like he does anybody else in his life:  cruelly and with mean intent.  This bothers Brennan but he can't do anything about it.  When he finds Vincent trying to strangle Shyla because he's discovered she's a cop, he can barely hold himself back from killing him.

As the story continues it keeps ratcheting up in tension.  Shyla is going after Victor but loves Brennan.  Brennan loves Shyla but must protect Victor.  Things are going to get messy before they get better.  Will either one of them be alive at the end?

It keeps you reading and gives you enough information on the characters to make you empathize with Brennan and Shyla.  You won't be bored.
