It's his mother's birthday and he and his dad are going to make her a cake. At least that's the plan...
Random House Children's Books sent me a copy of this book to read for review (thank you). You can grab a copy of it at your local bookstore now.
His mother's birthday is during Passover, so they have a special cake mix to use. But baby Trudy is being fussy and not cooperating. Dad is up trying to get her to take a nap. Once he sneaks out only to have Max yell about baking the cake and waking Trudy up again!
As it gets later and later, Max decides he'll have to make the cake himself. I was anticipating a big mess but he did well and saved the day.
Ms. Edwards writes a charming story and Mr. Santoso's illustrations are great. I've had to do substitutions in the kitchen myself on occasion, so I'm quite proud of Max. Would you have thought to do what he did?
Happy reading.
