Jack and Annie are going on another treehouse adventure. This time they will be meeting Florence Nightingale.
Random House Children's Books sent me these two books for review (thank you). They both have been published and you can find them at your local bookstore now.
In High Time for heroes, we follow a fictional account of meeting Florence Nightingale in Egypt. At the time they meet her, she hasn't become a nurse yet and has no intention of doing so. All they need from her is another truth to add to their list and they only have an hour to get it. However, she doesn't seem to want to spend time with them!
Add in a monkey, a few jackals, injuries from a fall, and Florence treating them and they finally have the word(s) they need.
The companion to this book is a Magic Treehouse Fact Tracker titled: Heroes for All Times. This includes: Florence Nightingale, Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, Harriet Tubman, Susan B Anthony, and John Muir along with photos, illustrations, and tips on how to get more information on them.
Together they'd make a special gift for a child ages 7-11 who enjoys the series or likes reading biographies. The information given is just a sampling of their lives. When I was younger and found out about her, I had to read more about Harriet Tubman. She could have died doing what she did, but she knew there was a need and she did it.
Not all is bad in the world. Why not share some heroes stories to let your child see what's possible to achieve.
