Will West does his best to be common. You know, not too good at anything so he doesn't stand out. But one day he does a special screening test and forgets himself. He aces it, and then he has two different groups trying to control him.
Random House Books for Young Readers and Edelweiss allowed me to download an ebook of this story for review. It will be on sale September 25th, so watch for it to show up.
I almost didn't review this one because it's 560 pages long. That's a lot of book. However, I sprinted through the pages last night and read this entire book in one setting. That means the author wrote a smooth tale with lots of action and intrigue and kept my attention. This is a fantasy tale, and it's very well written.
Will is offered a full scholarship to an elite school since he scored so well on the test. When he calls his mother to come and get him, she's not like Mom anymore when she arrives. It's like she's lost her "self" and someone else has moved in. This is just the beginning of Will's adventures.
Here is a complex tale with factions of good and evil, ugly monsters from another world, and five students who have various abilities. Those abilities put them in danger, especially Will.
The story is very fast-paced and exciting. I enjoyed it a lot! I'm happy to see this is the first of the series and there will be more. The students are just discovering who they are and why they are together. Will isn't sure if his parents are still alive. The monsters coming after him sure haven't given up. Book 2 should be just as exciting as Book 1. I'm also hoping Dave will show up again. This is a great read for a young man, but young women will enjoy it just as well. The girls in this story are not sissies.
Why not join Will in Wisconsin at his special school and see what new challenges he faces? You'll also meet Dave.
Happy reading.
