The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris

Nella is the only black person the publishing house.  She wishes she could have a friend at work.  Her boss isn't bad, but she's white.  Then another black woman is hired...

Atria Books sent me an ARC of this book to read for review (thank you).  It will be published June 1st.

Hazel is a pleasant woman who grew up in another area.  They eat lunch together and talk.  Nella is happy to have a new friend.  But is she?

Suddenly she is getting notes telling her to leave.  She doesn't know who is sending them.  Then she finds out Hazel knows about her boyfriend.  She's never mentioned him.  How come Hazel knows his name?

There is always competition in the office but suddenly Nella realizes that Hazel is trying to take her spot.

There's more than one mystery in this story.  There is backstabbing, no secret is safe and no one is really loyal to their friends.   Nella tries to get advice from an old friend but that's not helpful either.

Will it be Nella or Hazel that leaves?
