The Magical Imperfect by Chris Baron

Ethan quit talking when his mother went in for mental help.  His father tries to encourage him but has no luck.  Ethan learns at school he has a neighbor that the other children call a creature.  He goes to visit.

Feiwel & Friends and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book (thank you).  It will be published June 15th.

She has a rash that affects how she looks but she's nice.  She takes him to her secret place. There's a pond and trees and it's very peaceful.

Ethan and his family are Jewish.  His grandfather shows him treasures from the old country that they brought with them.  Some of it is clay.  Ethan tries using the clay on her arm and it helps heal it.  These two become good friends.

There is a Jewish celebration coming up and his grandfather wants them to go together.  Ethan's father says no.  He's got tickets for the big game and is going to do that instead.

There are lots of earthquakes and the one on game day is bad.  Does Ethan's father survive?  Will the family stay together after his father doesn't do what his grandfather wanted?  You'll have to read it to see...
