Stella is not your average female. She has tattoos, rides a Harley, favors jeans and t-shirts, and loves Nick. Nick's sister is trying to talk her into a traditional wedding and all Stella says is no. There's no money for a wedding and Stella doesn't want one like that anyway, but Miranda is not listening. If that's not enough to stress you out, how about going to the fair and finding the performer stuck in the manure pile? That'll do it!
Poisoned Pen Press and Net Galley allowed me to download this ebook for review (thank you). It will be published today, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.
When the cops start looking at Stella as a potential killer, she gets testy. She didn't even see the girl except when she was performing, she didn't know her. Finding her didn't make her guilty. However, there aren't a lot of other suspects.
This story is set during fair week and as Ms. Clemens talked about activities in the cow barns it was like I was there again. We had a small local fair and I always knew the families with animals entered in the competition. This is a similar environment with all the same complaints about cleaning up the stalls and who had better stock and why.
Besides the cow competition, there's a beauty contest and that's real competitive, too. It's amazing what people will do to win. It's also amazing what people will do to lose.
This is a fast paced story and Stella is a character to love. She's bristly, stubborn and fights for those she loves. Nick is a charmer who calms the feathers down after Stella's done. Miranda just wants a beautiful white wedding. With that mix of characters, you get a good mystery and a good read.
Give this one a try, I think you'll like it.
Happy reading.
