Hattie Big Sky was a 2007 Newbery Honor-winning novel. This is the sequel to Hattie's story...
Random House Children's Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you). It has been published, so visit your local bookstore to pick up a copy.
Hattie doesn't want to get married yet. She decides to move to San Francisco and get a job as a reporter; she'd like to be a "Nelly Bly". She loves Charlie, but she wants to be prove to herself she can do this job and do it well. He heads for Seattle to follow his job and tells her he'll wait. How long, he doesn't know.
Part of what Hattie learns is how fickle the heart can be. She finds an attentive reporter and enjoys how he works with her. She wonders if she might be feeling more for him. Before she's through with her assignment, she'll find out how helpful he really was.
This is an excellent read. It's an old-fashioned story with a strong female character you can admire. She controlled her own life and learned from her mistakes. Isn't that we all do?
Happy reading.
