The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Ruby knows that some students are missing from her school, but she never expected to find herself collected.  When her power exposes itself, she's grief stricken.  After being angry with her parents, she wakes up to find out they don't even know who she is anymore...

Disney-Hyperion and Net Galley shared a copy of this ebook with me for review (thank you).  The book will be published December 18th, so you could grab a copy before Christmas.

Ms. Bracken writes a dystopian tale of the future with unpleasant choices for children with powers.  Ruby was taken from home at ten.  At age 16, she has an opportunity to escape from her school and takes it.  Little does she know what life will bring her when she runs.

This is a dark tale.  It's a world divided by age and abilities, and the only ones benefiting are those in power.  I found it to be a fascinating read and I couldn't wait to see how it ended.  This author broke my heart with her ending.  It's appropriate, but I hated it!  The only good news is that there may be more to this series and maybe Ruby will find some joy in life yet.  I can hope.

You won't be bored if you read it.  If you travel with Ruby you'll know why she made the decisions she did.  It hurt, but she did the right thing.

Happy reading.
