Below the Moon by Alexis Marie Chute

Ella has cancer and she has lost her words.  She can make noises but no one can understand her.  She has pain.  Sometimes it makes her weak, but she's strong in her own way.  Her mother wants them to find the star.  She thinks it will cure her.

The author and Spark Press sent me an ARC of this book to read for review (thank you).  It has been published and you can get a copy now.

To access the star, they have gone to another world.  She's with her mother, Tessa, her grandpa Archie, and her magical boyfriend.  On this world they find her father.  He has changed into one of the different creatures on this world.  Her mother brought along her boyfriend and now she's not sure who loves the most.

The star might cure Ella but it's evil, too.  It's influencing the world they are on and not in a good way.

The different people on this planet fight.  One group will try to take over another.  The people are a variety of aliens.  The story is very busy with war plots and the humans trying to stay alive.  You won't be bored.

The leaders pushing for war are killed.  Things should settle down a bit.   Ella finds out she's not all human, which could be a good thing.

The last paragraph lets you know there will be more to the story later.  This is a very interesting series.
