Suppose You Meet a Dinosaur by Judy Sierra

Trying to get through the grocery aisles is hard enough with the normal crowd, but when there is a dinosaur there...

Alfred A Knopf sent me a copy of this children's picture book for review (thank you).  It is currently available at your local bookstore, so you can grab a copy.

This fun children's book is illustrated by Tim Bowers.  The subtitle is: A First Book of Manners.  Here is a very easy way to teach your child simple basic manners by talking to the dinosaur.

My favorite part of this picture book is the dinosaur's big pink glasses.  They have jewels and are huge!  When she drops them and the little girl tries them on it will make you laugh.

Why not have some dinosaur fun and learn manners at the same time?

We Love Our School by Judy Sierra

This is a picture book about the first day of school done in a read together Rebus form; words plus pictures to make it easier to learn to read.

This is a very colorful picture book with cute, vibrant animals from Linda Davick.  They are whimsical and fun to look at, and will add to the joy of reading the story.

The text rhymes, which is a nice touch.  This is the story of the first day of school done in simple words with pictures in the sentences that replace the actual word.  

The pink sheep is my favorite character. It looks like she's wearing little balloons on her head and she's hot pink!

If your child is having a bit of time learning to read, this is a good book for them.  Learning to recognize the words in the form of an illustration will make it easier for them to see the words in writing, too.

Zoozical by Judy Sierra

Nobody is visiting the animals at the zoo because it's winter.  They are bored and depressed.  What can do they to cheer each up?

This children's picture book was published the first part of August and is available at your local bookstore now.  Alfred A Knopf Books for Young Readers sent me a copy for review (thank you).

This a fun book for children.  Marc Brown's illustrations are always colorful and whimsical and his zoo animals are great!

Ms. Sierra does an excellent job of drawing a child into the story.  All the animals are sitting around being bored and all of a sudden a baby hippo and kangaroo start hip-hopping, toe-tapping, and rap-rocking.  Pretty soon everyone is involved!

If your child likes music or is artistic in any way, this book will appeal to them.  If not, it's still a good read.  You get to watch the animals put things together for a performance.  They invite the patrons to come see the show and everyone has a good time!

Why not let your little one sing and dance for you?  Maybe with a little help from you they could dress up, too.  This book should give you some good ideas on how to accomplish that.  It's also great for read aloud.  Get a copy!

Tell the Truth, B. B. Wolf by Judy Sierra

Big Bad Wolf tries to explain himself.  It doesn't work well...

Alfred A Knopf Books for Young Readers provided me with a hardcover copy of this children's picture book to review.  It's written for ages 5-8 and has big colorful illustrations by J. Otto Seibold.

B. B. Wolf begins to tell the tale about how it all began:  He was blowing the puff off a dandelion when the first house went down.  And he has explanations for the other houses, too, but the students he's talking to aren't buying the story.  Since changing the tale didn't help, Mr. Wolf looks for another to redeem himself - and finds one, too.

There are other nursery rhyme characters in the story, like the Humpty Dumpty, Gingerbread Boy, and Rumpelstiltskin.  This is a good opportunity to share their stories with your child also.

This book is available at your local bookstore.  Go check it out.  The vibrant illustrations and cool story line should appeal to your child - and they'll learn a little moral lesson on the way.  Happy reading!
