I absolutely love David McPhail's illustrations. Just that would make me buy the book. The story is just the icing on the cake.
David wakes up in the morning with Penguin sleeping next to him. He sees fresh snow outside, so he bundles up and gives Penguin a scarf to wear to keep warm. They start out with snowballs, then build a snowman. After that, they go inside and the Penguin shares his hot chocolate while David share his jam and toast. What could be better?
Does your child have a special stuffed animal? Mine was a small panda bear that is almost hairless, the tail is hanging by one thread and one eye is missing. But it's in my hope chest. He was an important part of my young life and I'm not throwing him away! If not, maybe you can find a penguin for them...
