Listing more books...

Most of the ones I've listed in the last few days are brand new. I buy them from a remainder house, but not many of them have remainder marks, which is cool!

I've done some craft books, some cookbooks, Americana - the People, will be doing some on Americana - the Land tomorrow.

Looking at the number of books I need to list, I can see that I have a forever job.

Here's an example of what I listed:

The Magic Thief Lost by Sarah Prineas

This one is a great read! It's juvenile fiction, but I don't care if you call me juvenile - it was fun!

The second in this series, it's the story of Conn who sees magic differently from the magicians. He believes it is alive - they think he's crazy. And when what he does to create magic works, they grow fearful and he's banished from the kingdom.

So he takes off on a quest with the duchess' daughter, Rowen. She's been forbidden to talk to him - and he to her - but there's not much reason to worry about that on the road.

They face magical dangers, almost lose their lives (some do) and the story isn't over yet.

You'll love the romp through the world of magic and demons. Try it, you'll like it!

If you'd like my review copy, send me an email and leave a comment here on the blog. I'll end the drawing in about a week.

Listing books that were living on the floor in the shop...

When I sorted my personal library out and came up with books I decided I could part with, I had no place to put them! So I brought them out and put them in the shop area - on the floor between bookcases. That means if I sell a book out of a category in that area, I had to be real creative to get to the shelf to retrieve them. You ever play that game "Twister" where you had to put your hand or foot on whatever color came up when the arrow was spun? That's what this reminded me of!

I have listed cookbooks, Japanese Magna graphic novels, history books of Washington, reference books for plants and animals, children's books, and I have many more to list. Threw some crochet booklets in there somewhere, too. I'm just going through the piles, listing whatever I find!

I need to do my taxes, but listing is more fun. I'll need a day when I'm feeling real anal retentive to do taxes. I can practically list in my sleep...

Almost through with the Juvenile fiction review for Foreword Magazine. They have one more book they're sending me to read before I make my final choices.

George is getting better every day. He's taking this week off work to heal.

I've found something new to use for my eczema. It's an essential oil treatment a lady created for her business and I think I'll have to order some. When I do, I'll let you know what it is - right now I just have a sample bottle. I have tried various kinds of treatment (all over the counter) and nothing has worked on it. This stuff works!

The next door neighbors got an old car that's been sitting for some time running again. I heard him yahooing in excitement - must be a man thing.

Hope life is going well for you. I'll be listing again tomorrow, too.

If you have an interest in any particular category, let me know. I'll showcase you some books from my stock to see if I can tempt you to buy!

My brother is doing better...

He'll be in the hospital at least one more day, but he's responding to the medicine and doing better. His lungs are full and it will be a while before he'll get rid of all that. They have him on oxygen yet.

But the prognosis is good and he hopes to come home tomorrow.

That will make it much easier for me to work today. I'll be better able to concentrate on what I do.

Thanks for your prayers and good wishes, my friends.

Not a good day....

Finally got Mom in the assisted living unit and thought all was going well, and then I get an email from my sister-in-law today telling me my brother is in the hospital!

He (and she) thought he had the flu. Come to find out, it was pneumonia. The doctors said he couldn't have gone much further without medical help. They're testing his heart and lungs for damage or blood clots. He has to stay there again tonight.

I'm hoping for better news tomorrow.

And if you'd like to say a few prayers for George, I'd sure appreciate it.

Fortune's Magic Farm by Suzanne Selfors

This is a cute one! Imagine living in a town where it always rains and everything is gray - including the people... (OK, it does remind me of living in Washington state, but I moved and there's sun here now!)

Everyone works at the factory. The lady who owns the boarding house where Isabelle lives is awful. She hardly feeds them and eats everything herself. Plus she mentally hounds the tenants for new conversation but only her approved subjects...

Isabelle is an orphan, raised by an older woman in town, and who is now quite ill, and living at the boarding house with her.

There doesn't seem to be any hope at all. Then this strange sea animal shows up at the beach and spits an apple at her. Nobody in that town has seen an apple in years, and she tries to hide it so she can share it with her "Grandmother" and give her a treat. No such luck there, though. But when the mean land lady tries to eat her apple, it explodes!

From there the story gets even more interesting. It's wild fantasy at its best, has enough gross things in the story to keep the juvenile readers going, and you find yourself rooting for Isabel and hoping life will get better for her.

To find out, pick yourself a copy of this book - it would be a fun one to read aloud with the family in the evening, too.

The Embers by Hyatt Bass

Now THIS is a dysfunctional family!

It begins as a normal family: Dad, Mom, Son and Daughter. But soon life events take over, and the resulting reactions by family members leaves something to be desired.

Dad is untrue to Mom. Brother gets a deadly disease. The homeplace burns down and the son dies from it.

Dad is guilty, the daughter can't trust, the Mom wants to control. Daughter does therapy, but it's not really helping - she still can't commit to a relationship. Dad drinks too much. Mom is still trying to control her daughter.

Now the daughter is getting married and wants Dad to walk her down the aisle - at the site of the old homestead.

You'll have to read the book to see if and how this is resolved. But you sure won't be bored as you watch all the pussyfooting around and avoidance of the truth by this family.

If you'd to have my advance reader's copy of this book, email me at info@bookfaerie.com and leave a comment on the blog.

Happy reading!

Listed cookbooks and children's books...

Then finished another book review. And I got in a whole box of books to review for Foreword Magazine - phew, that will keep me busy.

Did a necessary evil today and went grocery shopping. At least we do it together and we can make a quick trip of it. And team playing for grocery put away works great, too.

I even got another letter from my Mom (who hates to take time to write). Seems that another person in assisted living where she's housed is my ex-brother-in-law. It's a small world, isn't it?

I've traded some books for bookmarks and some healthy bath and body items - means I don't hav money going out and that works well for me.

I'm over 6,000 books online now. I'm listing more quality books all the time, feel free to check it out!

The Mousehunter by Alex Milway

This one is a great romp for your imagination! First off, the mice in this book have many different attributes and of great variety - different colors, different talents, some are mean, some are magical - and they haven't identified them all yet...

Emiline is a mousekeeper, and works for a collector, so she's had lots of opportunities to find out just how many varieties there are and how to handle them.

Her great adventure begins when the collector sends a local sea captain after the legendary mousehunter pirate, Captain Mousebeard. She overhears the mission being given, and begs to go on the journey. While surprised the collector lets her, she's thrilled and ready to go the next morning.

However, the journey is not an easy one - she has to do her part on the ship. And then the mission turns out to be a lie and everything gets scrambled. When she realizes her boss sent her on the mission expecting her to die, she decides to fight back...

Any young adult that likes adventure and has a good sense of humor and imagination should love this book. It will also hold the attention of any child that isn't sure he/she likes to read!

Darling Jim by Christian Moerk

This was a fascinating book to read. It includes a fairy tale, two diaries, a wolf that isn't canine, and an aunt who lost her mind.

It begins with the death of a woman and her two nieces. She was starving them and poisoning them, and one finally found a weapon to use against her. No one knows how such an atrocious thing could happen.

But, one day, a postal clerk finds an envelope in the dead letter bin that contained a diary written by Fiona, the older of the nieces.

The story that unfolds shows that lust created jealousy, and how they begin to suspicion that Jim, who first woos a sister and then the aunt, may well be the monster who is raping and murdering other women in the local area.

How he behaves, how they respond, what people see and don't see in the small village, and how it all sorts out is amazing.

You'll pick up and begin reading and just keep going. You want to know what's going to happen next. And you'll be amazed by what does!

If you'd like my advance readers copy of this book, leave a comment here and then send me an email at info@bookfaerie.com to tell me why. I'll choose a lucky winner in about a week.

Hidden Voices by Pat Lowery Collins

This novel is haunting. It's set in Venice, during the days of Vivaldi, and focuses on three young teenage girls who have grown up in an orphanage.

Three girls' separate stories are told in their own voices, which is an unusual touch and works well.

This orphanage is known for its musical program, and each child is taught to play an instrument and sing. In this way, when they get to marriageable age, a duke may choose to take them as a wife to teach his children her talents and have a manageable, refined lady as a wife.

Two of the girls are orphans and have been left at the church for the sisters to find. One of them still has a mother, but she's a courtesan and can't be bothered with trying to raise a child. She does want a good upbringing for her, though, so she's also in the orphanage learning music.

Being so sheltered is not necessarily a good thing. Visions of romance arise in their heads, and it conflicts with music lessons and life in the orphanage.

One attempts to meet a man and get some romantic attention. Instead she gets raped and cannot return to the orphanage.

One goes to the farm to improve her health after battling a long illness, and meets a farmhand that she lies with. But she's found out and sent back to the orphanage...

And one is in love with her classmate, but can never let her know just how or how much.

How all this is resolved, and where their roads of life take them, is what makes this book interesting.

If you'd like my advance reader's copy, please post a comment on the blog and then send me an email to info@bookfaerie.com telling me why. I'll choose a winner from the responders.

Another Fun Children's Book: Duck's Not Afraid of the Dark by Ethan Long

This is a delightful book for young ones. I know I was afraid of the dark when I was small and this would have made me feel a bit better about the dark.

Duck says he's not afraid of the dark, but every time the light is turned off, he turns it back on!

The fun part is that there's a light switch on the book that the child can turn on and off as you read the story together. (It takes batteries.)

Poor duck is afraid of the dark because of the monster under his bed. When you lift the flap, you see it's his teddy bear.

So he cuddles his bear and manages to go asleep, even if it's dark...

I love this book!

The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker

This was an interesting novel. I generally get a sense of where the story is going in a book, but this one stumped me.

It starts with a doctor who marries a witch and his family begins the tradition of Robert Morgans becoming doctors and serving the same small community the original Rober setted in.

Then it moves to a family the current Robert Morgan is caring for and the story of the giant baby born there. The mother dies. The two daughters are dramatically different. Then their father dies and they are orphans...

The older daughter is very pretty and taken into a very nice family with all kinds of opportunities for her life.

The younger one, the one called little giant by her school teacher, doesn't have the same luck. She goes to a downtrodden family that has a strange little girl of her own, and learns to work on the farm.

The present doctor Morgan ends up marrying her pretty sister. But at the end, she's the one who's living with him and taking care of him.

And you'll be amazed at how it ends.

If you'd like my copy of this book, please leave a comment here on the blog and send me an email telling me why at info@bookfaerie.com.

More crocheted scarves I've made...

One is for a friend in Virginia who had a small cerebral stroke last year, and the other is for a friend in New York who wanted one for her sister-in-law who is widowed.

I have such fun working with the different types of yarn and a variety of stitches to make different looks.

I listed children's books today. Did cookbooks previously. You ever cooked a Kangaroo tail? I have a recipe for it.

Sent Mom a box of books last week. Have more to review.

I've twittered a bit, talked with a publisher about my ARC giveaway - he's going to send me a published book to give away instead, and I think I'll read a book from my pile to read and put it on paperback swap next.

Always seem to be busy here.
