Are you ready to meet a serial killer who has secrets? He has an apprentice; he also has a child he's never had contact with. Those two people are bound to meet and it will turn out very badly for one of them...
Kensington Books sent me an ARC of this book for review (thank you). It is being published this month, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.
Jolene is a divorced psychologist. She's a good one, too. She tries to help the young prostitutes get out of the life, helps them find homes for their children or a means of raising them. She also works with cops on cases they are trying to solve.
Nothing prepared her for finding Brody in the gym looking up at her. He's her ex-husband, a Ranger, and still very good looking. It's fourteen years later and she's not 18 anymore. She wants no relationship with him, or does she?
The further Jolene gets into the case of a serial killer, the more she wonders if he might not be her father. She doesn't look like her sister or father or mother. Her mother refuses to talk about it, but she knows it's a secret from the past. She also doesn't want to be related to a serial killer.
The story is fast paced and tense and I was easily drawn in to Jolene's fears. The author gives you more than one suspect and more than one murderer. Trying to figure out who the apprentice was is a challenge.
Give it a try, you won't be bored.

Before She Dies by Mary Burton
Someone is staking young women out with the word "witch" freshly tattooed on their head...
Kensington Books sent me an ARC of this book for review (thank you). It was published in February, so you can get a copy at your local bookstore now.
Defense attorney Charlotte Wellington has some deep secrets she's hidden from everyone in her new life. When she left the carnival, she left the past behind. However, the past hasn't forgotten her and it's suddenly going to become a secret too big to be hid anymore.
Charlotte's sister was killed when she filled in one night at the fortune telling tent for her. Charlotte has carried the guilt and torment from that moment with her for eighteen years. Now she's finding out the current cases of murder in her hometown may be connected to that killing.
This is good story full of suspense and suspicion. What isn't Charlotte telling the detective? Why can't she loosen up and have a relationship with a man she respects and enjoys sex with? Why is Grady back in town?
Ms. Burton does a good job of mixing the past and the present together in a way that enhances the story telling. The killer is an elusive figure until the end of the story. And the romance between the two main characters with different family relationships and strong personalities draws you into the story, too.
I really enjoyed reading this book, why not get yourself a copy, too?
I am going to be giving away my ARC of this book so if you'd like to win it, leave a comment here on my blog and email me at info at bookfaerie.com with your NAME AND ADDRESS and the reason you'd like to read it. I'll be picking a winner in about a week.
Happy reading!
