We're back at Mythos Academy for the final showdown. Gwen is Nike's champion and her quest is to take Loki down. The problem is that Loki is a god; Gwen is just a girl with a magic power and a strong sword...
Kensington Teen sent me a copy of this book to read for review (thank you). It was published in March, so check with your local bookstore for a copy. If you haven't been reading this series, you might want to start at the beginning; this story is the climax.
Gwen's got Logan back, but he still remembers being possessed by Loki and trying to kill her so it's a bit stilted. They love each other but they are wary.
I've been following this series for a while and I enjoy the stories. There is no doubt who is good and who is evil. The Protectorate tries to do the right thing but sometimes is harsh about it. Gwen is working with them, but she doesn't hesitate to follow her own sense of right and wrong without asking them for permission. This has resulted in conflict.
This time it's even worse. They have found artifacts that were held by the reapers and Gwen has identified the important one. It's a candle. When the reapers kidnap Gwen's grandmother and want to trade her for the candle, Logan's father says no. He has to think of the greater good, not one individual. Gwen is not in agreement.
She steals the candle, goes to the assigned meeting place, and gets ready for the biggest battle she's had in her life. It may very well be the LAST battle she has in her life...
Ms. Estep builds tension throughout the story and makes this last battle epic. I know how I wanted it to go, but I wasn't sure it was going to end that way. You'll have to read the book to find out what happened. You won't be bored and even more magic comes to life. It's a fitting end to the series.
I wonder what this author will write next?
