He finds he has been chosen as a Guardian. He must fight the Defilers that want to destroy all dreams. As he fights them he learns their history and finds they all have died broken, without hope and unhappy. They want to destroy others happiness.
He finds he can be hurt in the battles but he can heal in the magical water in the palace. He still has some sign of the injury when he wakes up at home but he hides it.
He has a girlfriend who wants him for his money. Then he meets one of the Arch keepers and falls in love. His old girlfriend doesn't want to give up her dream of having all the money she wants to spend...
Julian finds the hidden sword in a contest, so it's his to use. Unfortunately that means all the Defilers are after him.
The author keeps her characters busy all the way through the book. Each Defiler has a deadly hidden talent for killing and Julian has learned not to let them touch him, if possible.
The story flows well and is interesting so it keeps your attention. This is just the first one in a series and I'd read another. The story premise has promise.
