The Devil's Hook by Pearl R Meaker

Emory's husband is a professor at the college.  She teaches crochet and knitting during different semesters.  This time her class is crochet.  She has young and old in her class, a couple of men, and the wife and daughter of the college president.  When the mom has to show off her expensive crochet hook made of wood, Emory tries to smooth it over.  Hooks are personal preference but not everyone can afford the expensive one.  It gets worse when it turns out to be a murder weapon...

The author and Goddess Fish Blog Tours let me read this book for review as part of the tour.  The book has been published and you can get a copy now.

The college president's psychic abilities seem to be faltering.  Emory's are working fine, but she can't understand what they are telling her.  When she's in the house where the murder takes place as it takes place, she knows Amy didn't kill the woman with her crochet hook.  She may have hated her but she wasn't that sort of person.  But who did?

I enjoyed the "Mrs. Marple" Emory working with the "Nancy Drew" Madison to work out the mystery.  Having someone on the inside helps.  And Emory's husband works on forensics, so he could add to the investigation, too.

The story is interesting, the crochet part sets the stage but doesn't overwhelm the story, and the ending was fascinating.  You might leave your old life behind but it doesn't leave you...

@Mai,

Good morning Mai!

What I'm working on now is book three in the Emory Crawford Mysteries series which has the working title of The Devil's Flood. It happens in Twombly and a part of surrounding Golden County - which means that Captain Henry Schneider will most likely be causing problems for Emory, Jebbin and Maddison.

In this story the past and present of the town of Twombly and surrounding Golden County meet in two flood years bound together by mystery and murder. Add to that – moonshine. The old illegal liquor business is alive and well in the area, and it’s getting into the hands of underage citizens. Will Emory and Madison, with help from Jebbin, AnnaMay and others, be able to deal with the dirt and mire and solve the cases?

After that, my next project will most likely be book #4 in the series, which right now is looking to take us back to music. But that's not for certain yet. I have a few other ideas floating around and one of those might get asked to be written first.

Mixed in with those, I'm hoping to do some short stories that will fill in some history of our favorite Twombly characters and have them be special offers to readers.

We'll have to see how things go, you never know what characters may do. ;-)

Thank you so much for asking, Mai!
