Quilt by Association by Arlene Sachitano

How is that every time the Loose Threads quilt group picks a design for a dog adoption benefit, their rival group the Small Stitches seems to be using the same pattern?

The subtitle of this book is:  A Harriet Truman/Loose Threads Mystery.  Zumaya Enigma sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  It's currently available for sale.

This is my first taste of this author.  She creates realistic characters with all the frailties of humans and it is easy to relate to Harriet and her concerns about the people close to her.

A member of the Thread group is adopting a new child, and everyone is looking forward to meeting the child.  Harriet's boyfriend is across the state saving dogs that belonged to a hoarder.  The story is set in Washington state, where I lived for 48 years, so it was a fun background for me.

Harriet's troubles begin with a worry about how the other quilt group is able to see the patterns they are creating.  Then a lady approaches her from Africa with a baby in her arms she swears is Aiden's.  Harriet knew Aiden had been in Africa, but he never mentioned anything about a love affair, much less a baby.  She knows he would not have abandoned his child.  Or does she?  And then she begins to suspect the new child her friend has adopted may not have been orphan!

With all the characters already introduced in the story and a few more thrown in, the plots dance across each other like a spider web and when people start showing up dead, the questions get harder and the answers are more critical.

Ms. Sachitano does a nice job of mixing up the plots and you can feel the emotions between Aiden and Harriet.  It's a good read.

Why not get yourself a copy and try it out?  If you like quilting, you will enjoy reading it even more.
