Boneman's Daughters by Ted Dekker

Talk about suspense, this book will keep you reading until you notice you're not breathing anymore...

It has very graphic violence in it, so be forewarned.

The story line begins in Iraq, with a soldier who works in intelligence being captured by the opposing forces. They want him to give up his wife and daughter in exchange for his freedom and the lives of some young children of their land. He doesn't, and it gets ugly.

After this traumatic experience, he begins to assess his life and lack of time spent with his family. But when he returns home to be a husband and father again, both his wife and daughter reject him.

While this process is taking place, a suspected serial killer is released from prison because the evidence is found lacking.

It just so happens the prisoner was NOT the killer, and the real killer goes back into action when he's released.

He kidnaps girls and intends to make them his daughter - but none of them are worthy of it. So he kills them by breaking their bones and leaving them to die...

Ryan, the soldier, is trying to get his daughter to see him, but she keeps refusing. He makes a fool out himself by trying to force the issue, and the police get involved.

Then his daughter disappears. He tells them he doesn't have her, but they don't believe him. And then he learns about the BoneMan, and he knows he's the only one who's going to save her - the others won't be in time.

It has a real sucker punch of an ending that makes the whole story even more ironic. You'll have to read it to find out how it all ties together.
