The Forgetting Spell by Lauren Myracle

When you live in a magical town where wishes can come true, you need to be cautious about spells and wishes.  Darya is only six when she asks for her first spell...

Katherine Tegen Books and Edelweiss allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published April 4th.

Darya really misses her mother and still doesn't know why she left.  Her older sister knows something about it but won't share.  Her younger one doesn't remember her much so she's not so sad.  As Darya feels her way through life, she gets womanly advice from her aunts.  But she's not happy or content.  And now her thirteenth birthday is coming and it's time for to make three wishes at the wishing tree.  This didn't work too well for her older sister and she's not sure what to wish for.

When she finds out her mother is back in town, she goes to visit her.  While she's there, her mother asks her to use one of her wishes for her.  Darya is angry.  They are HER wishes, why should she waste one trying to fix her mother's mistake.  Besides, what if Emily is dead?

As Darya begins to remember what the spell told her to forget, she gets more confused.  What's the right thing to do?  What does she really want to wish for?

One thing Darya learns is that no matter what you wish for, if you don't follow through on it, it probably won't happen.  What she wishes for and how she follows up on it is enlightening.  The author even gives you a clue about what the next book will be about.  Before you finish this series you'll be afraid to say:  "I wish..."
