Brambleheart: A Story About Finding Treasure and the Unexpected Magic of Friendship by Henry Cole

Twig is a chipmunk who really isn't good enough at the any of the school skills he's learning to become a master of one.  That means he'll be an errand runner, the lowest rung on the social scale of his community.  But things change when he runs away for a day.  He finds the river, falls in and almost drowns and he discovers an egg...

Katherine Tegen Books and Edelweiss allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published February 9th.

Lily is a bunny friend of his.  Basil the weasel is his enemy.  If only he did better in school, he'd feel better.  His problem was that he'd rather read picture books than study.  (I had that problem, too, but I got my studying done.)  Basil is going to pick on him if he does well or if he fails.  That's just the way it is.

When finds his egg is hatching, he's amazed to find a baby dragon inside.  Since the egg was abandoned, he takes it home with him.  He's thrilled when he finds out it can shoot flames.  It looks like he might be able to master metal working yet!

This is cute story with challenges, a chance to do what's right, and an amazing change in Basil.  I didn't like the fact that the story doesn't have an ending.  It will be continued in another book.   Now I'll just have to watch carefully for the next in this series.
