Elemental by Antony John

Thomas is the only one on the island that does not have a special elemental power.  He feels like such a failure.  He's past the age his power should be identified and he's the only one who is a "nothing".

Dial Books and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity read this ebook for review (thank you).  The book will be published November 21st, so make a note on your TBR list.

This story is mix of magic, paranormal and dystopian.  I found it fascinating.

The survivors on the island have escaped the plague that hit the mainland.  There few people left in the world, and the only ships that visit are those who trade supplies with them.  They use their powers to start fires, catch fish, or any need they have.  When the weather gets bad, they send the children to another island that has a shelter they can live in.  This same shelter is where they go to hide when the pirates invade.  The bad news is that the pirates are there after one of the children...

I found the tale entertaining.  There are several twists and ties and untruths all around.  The children have to become strong enough to try to fight back and save the guardians.  However, the guardians haven't been honest with them.

When the story ended, I was ready to go on to the next phase.  I'm hoping this author will write another book in this series.  It's a stand alone book, but the characters grabbed my attention and empathy, and I'd like to see them develop more.  After all, will Thomas pick Alice or Rose?

Why don't you grab this fantasy tale and see if you can guess what's going to happen; I couldn't.  I think you'll enjoy reading it too.

Happy reading.
