Midwinter Blood by Mons Kallentoft

Finding a tortured naked dead man hanging from a tree was no way to begin your morning.  It didn't phase Malin Fors; it was just part of the job.

Atria Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you).  It has been published and you can find a copy at your local bookstore now.

This is a complex story of people, their emotions and their decisions in life.  Take two dysfunctional families in a poor part of town and mix them together and you find ugliness and depravity.  The mother is the matriarch of the family and she uses her power indiscriminately and ruthlessly.  She may be old, but she's wicked.

It's a tangled tale that takes a long time to unweave.  The story is interesting and Malin is having trouble in her own life.  She's raising her daughter alone and finds that she's growing up faster than she expected.  She also finds our her parents and the child's father know more about the child than she does.  That's a rude awakening for a mother.

The murderer is not apparent, the tangled web hides some ugly secrets and living happily ever after doesn't seem to happen in this book.  This is the gritty side of life.  Surviving is what counts here.

Happy reading.

Sounds like a movie waiting to happen. I love books where there are many twists and turns, which keep you guessing and reading. Money makes people do strange things. Another one to go on my to read list...now to find it.

Just wondering are most of the books you review available in ebook format? and if so are most for kindle?

This one is available in hardcover or ebook form. Normally you can get the ebook in a variety of types, some are only on Amazon in Kindle form. I read almost all the ebooks I read on the Nook. You'll just have to do a search by the title and see where it is sold and in what form.
