Rocket Writes a Story by Tad Hills

This precious little puppy is back again and now he wants to do something with the words he knows.

Schwartz & Wade sent me this book for review (thank you).  I had already reviewed How Rocket Learned to Read so I was anxious to get this one.

I am smitten with this puppy and his bird teacher.  Mr. Hills' illustrations make me smile and his stories are sweet.  He's very good at getting into the mind of a child and making his story easy to read and charming.

Rocket starts collecting words.  His teacher helps him write them down and they decorate a tree with them.  When the tree is full of words, Rocket decides he wants to write a story.

Watching the puppy face writer's block and struggle with his story will make you think of other authors you know.  Rocket finds a new friend and writes his story about her.

This book is a marvelous picture book for children.  It's one I could read to children again and again.  If you have little ones in your life, you can't go wrong sharing Rocket's stories with them.

I highly recommend this children's series.  And I'm collecting the books for me...

Happy reading.

Had my neighbors' little 5 year old here today and had picked up a dollar store kit where they can write their own book. She was so excited, and was actually talking chapter book!
The interesting thing was watching her little brother, 16 months, and wanting his own paper and pen.
I love the idea of reading to kids young, and love the idea of encouraging them to write young as well. Teach a child to read and you have given them a wonderful gift. Encourage them to write and who knows where it will take them, and you!
