Night Road by Kristin Hannah

Her mother promised she'd straighten up and give her a home and the love she needs.  But it never worked out.  And then she died and Lexi had to go live with her aunt.  She also made a new friend and life was looking real good.  However, it didn't stay that way...

This book was published at the end of March by St. Martin's Press.  Authors on the Web sent me a copy for review (thank you both).  It's coming out in hardcover and you can find in your local bookstore now.

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Hannah, and she writes very realistic fiction about love and loss and coming of age.

Lexi becomes tight friends with Mia and Zach, who are twins.  They met at school, each girl becomes more outgoing and independent through the years, and Zach is in love with Lexi.  They are discussing where to go college and making plans for the future.  Then they go to a graduation party and have a few drinks and everyone's life changes...

The author understands dysfunctional families, controllers, and the pain of losing a child.  The guilt both Lexi and Zach carry almost kills them.  But they go on because they must.

This story is not a walk in the park; you feel the pain and the "what ifs" lingering in the air.  Things don't resolve themselves easily.  And nobody can go back to the way they were.  But hope lives on in injured hearts.  And this author's writing rings solid.

Why not get a copy and see for yourself?

If you'd like my ARC of the book, leave a comment here on my blog and then email me at info @ bookfaerie.com (take the spaces out) with your name AND address and tell me why you'd like to win.  I'll choose a winner in about a week.
