The Stone Circle by Elly Griffiths

It all starts with another stone hedge being located.  As they dig to uncover it, they also uncover a body.  It's been there for years and it looks like it was a sacrifice to the gods during construction.  But then they find another body and it's not nearly as old.  It turns out to be a missing girl that Nelson looked for long ago and never located.  Now he's determined to find her killer.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Edelweiss allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published May 7th.

Nelson and Ruth have a past, as did Nelson's wife and young black cop named Dean.  Nelson is the father of Ruth's daughter.  Michelle has just had another baby and she didn't know if it was going to be Tim or Nelson's baby.  She's in luck and has a new son that's white.  Nelson and his wife still love each other but Nelson also loves Ruth.  Everybody knows about the extended family but there are still embarrassing moments.

It's hard to find a killer thirty years later.  They are following every clue and getting closer to the truth.  Their main suspect gets shot to death.  It's a professional hit.  There's a new mystery to solve.

Then another baby is stolen.  This time they have no clues and no idea where she went or who took her.

It's not until the very end that all the loose pieces come together and Nelson solves his mysteries.  It's an ironic ending.  This author writes a good mystery.
