Mabel Jones and the Doomsday Book by Will Mabbitt

Mabel and her family got separated when the big blast happened.  She's in the Noo World and the rest of the hoomans have disappeared.  She has lots of animal helpers.  And she's trying to find the Doomsday Book with hopes that she will be able recover her family and the rest of hoomans.

Viking Books for Young Readers and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published October 4th.

As you can see, there are some made up words in this story.  It's written for middle graders and it's a fun read.  Mabel wanders in and out of trouble, she has to save her companions and they save her, too.  The search is not easy and she's not the only one who wants this book.

Her ragtag team rallies around her and they search high and low.  When they find the container they were hunting, it won't open.  So Mabel has to think hard about how to overcome it.  Even when she does, her challenges aren't over.  After all, Von Klaar is still out there...

There's lots of action, you don't care when the bad guys get their due, and Mabel keep pushing forward.  Young ones will enjoy the silliness in the story and the search is fun to watch.  Visiting old forgotten villages and meeting people who been imprisoned there for years was an interesting part of the tale.  This story could be read more than once; there's plenty of substance to chew on even if you do a re-read.
