Here's a tale, dark and deep, about witches. Alex is coming of age and they need to celebrate her "Deathday" which will help her control her magic. She doesn't understand her magic and she doesn't want to learn more about it. She wants it to go away...
Sourcebooks Fire and Edelweiss allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published September 6th.
I wasn't sure about reading this one. It was about Brujas and seemed a little dark. The author drew me in like I was standing in quicksand. You read a few words, you read a few more and before you know it, you've read the whole book! It's fast paced, has monsters of all kinds, and it's a tale that starts and ends with death.
What Alex does is try to use a different cantos (similar to spells) to remove her magic. It didn't remove her magic but it definitely removed all her relatives. Now she has to figure out how to save them. Right now, they are in another place a bit like limbo. They'll only last there for so long and then they'll be gone. She has to rescue them NOW.
She has a young man she met who is willing to help her. They cast a spell on a tree and create a portal. They have a map. They just have to find their way through the deadly land to the place her family is held. When Alex screamed going through the portal, her girlfriend jumped in to save her. So this little group of three has two who can do magic and one who is only human.
There's treachery, use of magic, and battles of all sorts on the way. Good triumphs over evil for the most part but one of her friendships has been destroyed. However, with the ending, I think there may be more in this series. It was interesting enough I'd read another book by this author.
