They got away from Rattigan and are working in a show right now where they display their various talents. Rattigan gave Sam extra strength and the others all kinds of other powers. They didn't want them, but they may as well use them to make some money. It also helps with an illusion of family. Most all of them are orphans. When one of their very good friends, an old sculpter with the nickname of Freckles is killed, they decide to find the killer on their own. After all, no one else is following up on it.
HarperCollins and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published May 3rd.
There is more than one plot point in this story. There are three bad guys, the case is complex, and I sat and read the whole book straight through.
As they look for clues, they realize there is a photo missing. The sculptor was creating heads for three people. One man's head is for the supposed murderer, one is the female victim and the other is for the man trysting with married female. He acquired several photos and made them look authentic. It was a photo that got him killed.
Rattigan is mean and insane. He wants the children back and wants them to do his bidding. They are trying their hardest to stay away from him. While all this is going on, their show is grinding to a halt. Business has fallen flat and the new boy adds to the problems. With all the accidents lately, who knows what's going to happen next.
The fast action, emotions, and friendships keep you reading and make you care about the characters. I'm sure we'll be seeing them again, and I'm ready to read the next book, too.
