Lena's Sleep Sheep by Anita Lobel

Are the sheep you count at night when you can't sleep alive?  Lena's are!

Random House Children's Books sent me a copy of this picture book for review (thank you).  It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Lena has trouble going to sleep right away, so she always counts sheep.  Imagine her surprise when she asks them to come out and help her get to sleep and they say no, they are afraid of the moon.  It's a full moon and they think he's hungry and is going to eat them.

My favorite part of this story is watching the sheep dress up in Lena's clothes so the moon won't know they are sheep.  Silly sheep!  The illustrations are whimsical, you can laugh at the way the outfits look on the sheep and then story segues into a regular good night story with the sheep out of the clothes, in their place, with the moon shining down on them like always.

Why not read this one to your young one and watch them fall asleep smiling?

Happy reading.
