Guardians Inc.: The Cypher by Julian Rosado-Machain

He's lost his parents and now lives with grandfather.  Grandpa is trying to find a job and Thomas thinks he's found a perfect one for him:  A librarian for the Guardians, Inc.

Cutebot Studios and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this ebook for review (thank you).  It's due to be published on November 30th, so make a note.  This is a new series and I don't think you'll want to miss it.

What Thomas finds out is that the Guardians weren't that interested in his Grandfather.  They wanted him!  That ad he read in the paper contained old languages and he had a talent that allowed him to read it.  He was a cypher and they needed one in their war with evil.  There are strange ugly creatures from the other world that want to take over our world.

Thomas isn't real sure about all this, but he's willing to serve and see how it goes.  The more he learns, the less he knows.  Then the creatures end up at Grandpa's house and he almost gets killed.  The Guardians save him, but his Grandfather is captured.

There's lots of action, the gargoyles come to life, his school principal is an Asian god, and now his Grandfather is fighting for the wrong side.  What's Thomas to do?  He has to keep learning and keep fighting for the good of his world, and it's going to more than one book to solve this problem.

This is written for middle graders and has plenty to hold their attention.  I think they'll enjoy odd characters and the excitement in the story.  Why not share a copy with your young one and see what they think?

Happy reading.
