Towering by Alex Flinn

Here is a retelling of the tale of Rapunzel that is very different and yet a bit the same.  She's hid away in a tower and only sees her grandmother.  But one day things change...

Harper Teen and Edelweiss have given me the opportunity to read an ebook of this story (thank you).  It will be published on May 14th, so make a note to grab a copy at your local bookstore then.

This author does an interesting thing with this fairy tale from the past.  She moves it into a contemporary setting, adds a bit of mystery, some drugs, some telepathic communication and a forbidden romance.  Her characters are young but strong and willing to fight for their right to be together.

I found it easy to empathize with Rachel of the long blonde hair and Wyatt with a hurt heart over the senseless death of his best friend.  They needed each other for more than just romance and it made it a better story.

How it ended was unusual and not totally believable, but it is a fairy tale after all.    Why not visit this old town in the Adirondacks and stay with the old lady and follow Wyatt on this journey?  You won't be bored.

Happy reading.
