The Reluctant Assassin W.A.R.P. by Eoin Colfer

Riley has the misfortune to be apprenticed to Garrick.  Garrick is a magician that has a touch of magic and a lot of murder in his life.  He wants Riley to be his protege.  Riley has no manical urge to kill anyone.  It doesn't get better...

Disney Book Group and Net Galley gave me the opportunity read this ebook for review (thank you).  It will be published May 7th, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.

Riley really doesn't have any choice.  If he doesn't kill their assigned victim, he will be killed by Garrick.  While he hesitates and Garrick takes his hand and forces him.  What happens next is beyond understanding.  The man in bed disappears in front of them and takes Riley with him.  When Riley wakes again, he's in the future...

This is a fascinating story.  The time travel is done with pods, and you only need the key to use them.  The past has more people from the future living in Victorian England than you would imagine.  Everyone is trying to kill everyone else.  Garrick is unforgiving and seemingly invincible.  Riley's only friend is a young woman who's been working with the FBI and has a bit of experience but not enough to deal with time travel and a deadly killer.

The story is fast paced, you can't guess what might happen next or in which time period and even when you put the book back down you know the story isn't over yet.  There will be a sequel.  Witness Anonymous Relocation Program (WARP) will be back in another book and so will Riley.  I'm going to be watching for the next book.  You try this one and I'll bet you'll feel the same way.

Happy reading.
