The Begonia House is big, hasn't been lived in for years, and the last owner died there. That's enough to give you creeps. But when you think you saw something that wasn't there, it's worse. Fairday can hear the bagpipes playing. However, the ones she found in the attic are shot. They're old, have holes and can't be played anymore. While she works on the attic she keeps thinking she sees something from the corner of her eye. Her mother asks her to watch her baby sister and she's happy to do that. Until she sees the baby entering the mirror...
The past and the present mix together in this story. Fairday's best friend from home comes to visit, she makes another new friend, and talks to an old newspaper man. All those people are necessary for her to solve this case. It helps that her new friend's dad is with the FBI and they get cool new resources to hunt with, like infrared googles.
The story moves well, you learn about the past as you read, and it all comes together in a very satisfying solution by the time the book ends. It's a good mystery, I enjoyed Fairday and her friends, and I'll be watching for more books in this series. Just don't let a ghost put you off, OK?
