The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie

What if a shop appeared out of nowhere?  Would you go in?

Floris Books and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It has been published.

I really enjoyed this story.  It was exciting, had lots of action and used lots of imagination.  It allows you to be drawn in and live the story vicariously and I like that.  This is one I could read again.

Daniel opens the shop door, jumps in and closes it, to get away from the bullies following him.  He has no idea where he is.  The proprietor of the store finds him right away.  He asks what his favorite thing is and the boy says magpies.  The man goes behind the curtain and two silver magpies fly out.   Welcome to magic!  This shop will take you any place you want to go but you're not really going anywhere.

The man with the shop moves it often.  The better to hide from his enemy.  But his enemy finds him...

This is a fairly complex story with lots of nooks and crannies and imaginary people who are alive and more.  I had to read the whole thing in one sitting.  I couldn't bear to put it down and come back to it.  That makes it a good book to me!
