Petra K and the Blackhearts by M. Henderson Ellis

Petra and her mother have been moved out of their home in the palace.  Her father is missing, they have no income and her mother has fallen into depression.  Petra's mother makes her go to the palace school which means those in the rundown village they live in now hate her.  Of course, those in the palace do, too, so it's not so very different.  She thinks it's about as bad as it can get but, of course, it's not...

Young Europe books and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this ebook (thank you).  It will be available for purchase on February 4th.  Check with your local bookstore.

This is a tale of magic, mystery, dragonka, sorcerers, a young prince, and lots of secrets.  Petra has to weave her way through the lies, searching for the truth and hoping there is a truth somewhere.  Why are they confiscating all the dragonka?  Where has her father gone?  Why have her four classmates suddenly started being so ravenous for food, especially meat? Petra and the Blackhearts are doing their best to understand, but there isn't much time left and they aren't even sure they trust each other.

If you're ready to go take a walk on the wildside and meet creatures you haven't even imagined before, this is the book to take you there.  You might want to read it during the day...

Happy reading.
