You've heard of alphabet soup. Have you ever seen a rock that looks like a letter of the alphabet?
Tricycle Press published this book in May and sent me a copy for review (thank you). It's available at your local bookstore now.
This is a most unique picture book. This author spent years combing the Florida seashore for odd shaped rocks; rocks that talked to her. Then she created the artwork for the photographs in this alphabet book. Each rock appears to be a letter of the alphabet. And her illustrations are done using rocks also.
E is for elephant, for example, has an "e" rock and an obvious elephant's head. You might have to use your imagination a little bit, but the rocks really do look like the letter or animal they are representing. It's fascinating!
Why not share this book with your little one and then go rock hunting with them? You never know what shapes you might find. We used to walk the creek and pick up agates when I was growing up. That's still one of my favorite memories. Make some of your own memories with the young ones.
Happy reading!
