In a Midnight Wood by Ellen Hart

Jane and Constance are going to visit their friend, Emma, and attend the local art festival.  There's also a class reunion going on, so they're sure to see old friends.  Jane wasn't expecting to do any sleuthing during the visit...

Minotaur Books and Edelweiss let me read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published September 8th.

When she goes to visit the old graveyard, they are digging up an old grave.  They need to move the wife over one spot so the husband can be buried by her side just like they slept in bed so many years. They never expected to find another body beneath her.

It's the body of Sam Romilly, a senior that went missing right after school was out in 1999.  They start asking questions and they get varying answers.  Some are lies.  Who killed Sam and why?  He had a bad temper did that have anything to do with it?   Those who are coming back to town get questioned, too.  But the killers never left town...

This is a good mystery right up to the end.  There doesn't seem to be any reason why he died.  The pistols were filled with blanks.  Did his father kill him?  They fought like cats and dogs.

After all these years one of the boys there couldn't stand his guilt anymore and confesses.  It's a breath-taking moment...
